Edition #45 — Economist Gordon Laxer on Why Alberta’s Tar Sands Must Be Closed

Political economist Gordon Laxer makes the case for shutting down Alberta’s tar sands.  Laxer argues that the one outcome that would be even more difficult than stopping all bitumen extraction from the tar sands would be to prop them up and struggle to keep them producing until they fall victim to market failure.  In the meantime, the unaddressed clean-up costs keep climbing while the oil industry delays taking responsibility for full land reclamation.  The first voice you will hear on this podcast is emcee Roy Brady of the Council of Canadians.
